Driver Kills Pedestrian in Green Lake Hit-and-Run
A 27-year-old woman hit and killed a pedestrian with her vehicle on Sunday at about 7 p.m. The driver was crossing Wallingford Avenue North at N 82nd Street when she struck the victim. Although she stopped the car and got out to check on the female victim, she then got back in her car and left, making this a hit-and-run incident.
Witnesses called 911 reporting that the victim was lying in the crosswalk, and medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The driver, Treza Hafzalla, returned to the intersection about 45 minutes later (due to urging from her boyfriend, according to court documents), and was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide. Investigators reported smelling alcohol on her breath, and she later told police that she had a drink a little over an hour before the incident although she refused to take a field sobriety test according to prosecutors.
A judge found probable cause to proceed with criminal charges, and the accused woman is being held on $200,000 bail pending further investigation of vehicular homicide and felony hit and run charges.
