Green Lake Events: Things to Do in January

Green Lake and the surrounding neighborhoods offer some interesting variety with the local events coming up in January. Mark your calendars!

January 1: Last Day of Wildlights
5:30pm – 8:30pm | Woodland Park Zoo
Participate in the wildest holiday lights festival in the city at the Woodland Park Zoo’s Wildlights, which features snowball fights with faux snow in addition to sparkling lights and of course Santa and his reindeer. Wildlights ends on January 1st.

January 5: First Friday Film – “De Lovely”
1pm – 4pm | Greenwood Senior Center
Each first Friday of the month, the Greenwood Senior Center hosts a free afternoon film showing. “De Lovely” will be the film for January, which offers a portrait of American composer Cole Porter and the important people in his life.

Fridays in January: Latona Pub’s Weekly Happy Hour Jazz
5pm – 7pm | Latona Pub
Latona Pub hosts a weekly happy hour in January, with live jazz music led by Phil Sparks, who is acclaimed as one of the best jazz artists in Seattle! It’s inspired by Boots, Barrie, and Murray, with happy hour bites and beer to enjoy while you listen!

January 12: PhinneyWood Art Walk
6pm – 9pm | Phinney and Greenwood Neighborhoods
For the second Friday art walk, sip and enjoy bites for happy hour at local neighborhood spots as you enjoy works from local artists that are featured in businesses along Greenwood and Phinney Avenue.

January 25: “The Art of Kayaking” Author Presentation
7pm | Phinney Center
World-renowned kayaker Nigel Foster will be visiting the Phinney Center on January 25th to present a slideshow featuring tidbits from his latest book, The Art of Kayaking. This is a free event, open to kayakers and non!

January 25: Opening Night of “Vanishing Point”
7:30pm | Seattle Public Theater at the Bathhouse
In this new musical comedy-fantasy from the Seattle Public Theater, watch as Agatha Christie, Amelia Earhart and evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson work together to solve the mystery of their disappearances. “Vanishing Point” runs through February 25th.

January 27: King County Seed Library Swap
1pm – 4pm | Phinney Center
Get seeds to plant in your garden this year, and swap your own seeds to share at the annual King County Seed Library swap on January 27th. Please only share seeds from edible plants, and if packaged, organic or open-pollinated only.
